Dear Green Acres Family,
After Governor Northam canceled school statewide Friday morning and then later receiving an email from the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia recommending that all in person worship be suspended, it was necessary for the session to vote by email on our response to protect the congregation. With that information and with the guidance of a member of our congregation who is on the COVID-19 task force for Virginia, we came to the decision that we will not gather in person at the church for worship or programming for the next two weeks. Instead, we will livestream a message through Facebook Live.
While we do not want to overreact to this situation and heighten the fear and anxiety that is already out there, we do feel it is in the best interest of the congregation and the community to listen to the advice from trusted sources. So, this is clearly the responsible thing to do. But even in the midst of the Coronavirus, we are still the Body of Christ, and as one of my colleagues put it, “we will gather, not in person, but in spirit and in truth, connected by the Holy Spirit — and the internet!”
In addition to suspending worship, all church activities including choir and bell choir, Wednesday night dinners and the Family Bowling Night have been put on hold. We will be continually re-evaluating the situation and will update you with any new information as becomes available.
This is an unprecedented time. Our prayers go out to all those who are ill, as well as to those who are caregivers and medical providers. May we work together to care for those who are most impacted by this virus and the impact it is having on our way of life. In times of anxiety I often repeat the words from Julian of Norwich, “all shall be well, all shall be well, all manner of things shall be well.” May these words bring you comfort and serve as a reminder that we are loved and cared for by a great God!
